Hi Eugene,

I like the photos of your Butterflies and the Blue and Red Bicolor are most interesting.  I thought the Butterfly Gene was dominant and that males carry it so if you use a BF male to a non BF female you still would get BFs in the F1.  Do you mate BF to sib BF or BF to non BF?

Thanks

your Betta Buddy

Hi again Bud,

it is easy raising a butterfly...
But for a good butterfly, you will have to put in more effort than almost any other color or pattern.

I love beautiful form on a fish.
Not many nice butterflies are produced in each spawn.
Jim Sonnier was right as i find Butterflies one of the most challenging lines to maintain.

Very few pieces of acceptable grade BF are produced each spawn. eg many butterflies may only have that slight banding at the outer edge (not preferred) of the fins instead of a nice 50%-50% banding.
and marbling on a butterfly is a fault.
it is like melano (where you dont get many fish since the ratio of melanos in each spawn is not too many to start with) except worse!!
So for consistency, i advocate breeding BF to BF.
Euge
